I spent approximately six hours in jail. By nine that same morning, they were coming to get me out of my cell. I figured it had to be Santos, but I didn’t want to see him.

As I walked to the release desk, I heard someone clear their throat. I hesitated to glance in that direction, because if it was Santos I positively wasn’t ready to face him. All I could envision was him fucking my sister. So, I decided to ignore him.

I retrieved my belongings and headed towards the door without looking around. That’s when I got a surprise.

“Did you think I was really going to leave you here in this dump on your birthday sexy?” Avery laughed as he held the door open. “We’re gonna go out the back way and I will take you to the loft. I only spotted a few reporters out front, but you know they like to eat shit like this up.”

Avery was right, but I needed to call JeaNida. Digging through my purse, I discovered that I didn’t have my cell.

“You wanna use my phone?”

“Why did you come? How did you know?”

After a brief pause, Avery answered.

“Santos called Tim and I just happened to be at his house. He told him about you catching him with another female in a compromising position.”

“Did that motherfucker tell you it was my sister?” I screamed. “I bet he didn’t tell you that shit!”

“Don’t get ya self all upset Beautiful.” Avery spoke calmly. “I thought you would have gone to JeaNida’s, but when Tim called her she said she hadn’t talked to you. She said the only other place you would go was your mothers. I persuaded Tim to get the address and I went over there. When I pulled up, the nosey ass neighbors told me the police took you away cuffed up.”

“Well you’re just the perfect little investigator aren’t you?” I wondered out loud.

“Wait and see. Ya ass is still in a whole lot of trouble, but I’m gonna do everything possible to get ya ass up out of it.” Avery assured me with a smile as we arrived at the loft. “How you wanna go about it?”

“I have a few ideas.” I replied with a sneaky grin.

“Come upstairs and get cleaned up. I have everything you need. Use the landline to call ya homegirl. I have to make a few runs and I don’t want you by yourself.”

“I will call her, but I just need to take a little nap first. I didn’t close my eyes up in that place.” I replied as I accepted the clothing that he provided for me to change into.

Avery gently kissed my cheek and proceeded to leave.

“All my contact numbers are programmed into the phone. Call me if you need anything.”

Those were his final words, and he was gone.

“Revenge is mine!” I stated through clinched teeth. “I swear this shit aint over!”

I showered, dressed in a t-shirt and shorts then proceeded to kneel next to the bed to say my prayers.
